Canelo Alvarez defeated Jaime Munguia in a 12-round fight with only a knockdown in the 4th round. The final score was 117-110, 116-111 and 115-112.
Canelo Alvarez defeated Jaime Munguia with a unanimous decision on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo handed Munguia his first defeat in an all-Mexico showdown in front of a packed crowd on May 5th weekend and defended his unified super middleweight title.
Canelo scored his only knockout in the 12-round fight, defeating Munguia in the fourth round.
“He’s strong, but a little slow. I can see every shot. (Everyone) is watching us, the Mexicans, And I feel proud about representing Mexico.” Canelo Alvarez said and crowd replied with loud cheers.
The judges’ scores were 117-110, 116-111 and 115-112.
Canelo punched 234 punches and Munguia punched 170 punches, according to punch stats provided by the broadcast.
“I came out well, I think at the beginning I was winning some of those rounds. It was going well. I let my hands go. But he’s a fighter with a lot of experience, obviously. Unfortunately, he beat me.’’ Mungia said.
Canelo 33 improved to 61-2-2 & Munguia dropped to 43-1.

Canelo returns a blow, and Munguia fires back. Munguia makes erratic swings. He is not going to give up easily. Now they’re mucking it up once more. Munguia 102, Canelo 106.
Round 12:
Munguia throws everything he has in round twelve. Canelo returns, obviously in the lead on cards, but he’s not playing it cautiously. Says the mob, “Ca-ne-lo! Ca-ne-lo!” Their man appears to be in charge. Canelo secures two enormous rights. Munguia is still standing, though.
